Farmer's House

Zaghmarz, Mazandaran, Iran

Architect: Maziar Qaseminjead Adab

Structural Eng: Abdollah Khorshidi

Quality Site Eng: Mohamad Qaseminejad

Deeply rooted in the regional architectural identity of Mazandaran Plain, this residential project explores the modern adaptation of traditional rural housing forms. Designed as a multi-generational, two-family residence, the spatial programming directly addresses the client's family structure, designating an accessible, independent ground floor for their aging parents while providing private, elevated living spaces above.

The building's architectural language, material palette, and climatic response are entirely drawn from the vernacular building traditions of Zaghmarz. Featuring a distinct pitched, steeped roofline and local brickwork, the structure is optimized to handle the humid, high-rainfall climate of northern Iran. A key feature of the design is the inclusion of a traditional loft space at the highest volume of the house, accessible via a custom-sculpted interior staircase. Historically utilized in Mazandaran as an elevated, naturally ventilated sleeping quarters during the intense summer months, this modernized loft blends historical lifestyle habits with contemporary comfort. The result is a home that respects family heritage, celebrates regional construction techniques, and achieves high climatic performance.
